Since this blog is now full of Shiro's pics... still i wanna share this lil cute blog with our lil cutie Al... our red ear slider.. Hihi.. :) Actually, we got Al much earlier than we got Shiro.I was sooooooo stubborn to have my own pet and begged Khairi to get me one.. ~_~ . Annoyed him much already, he then got me a cute terrapin(America breed) from a pet store at Miyaki machi at 5000++ yen.Huahahahaha... ~o~ That's about RM150 in Msia.
Having a red ear slider is fun and a very new experience to me.Never had a water-live pet before. Then i googled everywhere learning all about terrapins and got our Al all the things she need. The time when Khairi bought Al, she was like already one year old.The bigger the turtle, the cheaper i guess..~
At first, i wanna buy her a single aquarium (nothing in it for 3380yen)but later, i found an aquarium set for turtles at the Gooday..! Woohoooo..~ save money! :D Got the set for like the same price but have the water filter, a basking rock, chlorine med treatment and two little pack of turtles food. Cool right..!!
Just bear in mind for the cost like electricity and water cannot be avoided.Must get a filter system otherwise your tank will be like full of the terrapins p**p and can smelly.If not just change the water every two days.I mean who got such time and you'll use lots of water.So get one! Yup, i decorate the tank at first but then Al stumbled all the things, then i gave up, then i just decorate fairly.Just what
she wants.Some corals and shells, green plants and basking area.
As for foods, Al is a good girl.She eats whatever i feed her.Well, the first and second day we got her, she got grumpy and never ate.Made me worried sick about her.. Hhhmmhhh..! When she got her own aquarium, she was so happy and started to eat and play like healthy terrapin. Hoho~ I got her the turtles food(ニオイ。汚れをおさえる） that will not get the tank dirty and smelly.As for snacks,we got her the delicious crunchy prawns that full of calcium and she loves it so much!
The time we got her from the pet store, her shell was so dirty with the green mould and smell.!!! I was like so unhappy with how the pet store take care of the terrapins..!!! So, to have a clean and healthy terrapins, just simply use a cloth or a soft brush and gently brush the shell.Terrapin can feel everything even though at the top of the shell.Be gentle :)
I don't know why Al doesn't favor basking around like normal terrapins do, but she need to bask like one to two hours coz she needs all the nutrients for her shell.So i simply just place her in a small tank and bask her under the sunlight whenever i can.Be careful for not overheating.
Terrapins bite..! That's quite scary.Haha.. Just be careful and if you annoyed them to much, they might bite coz not all of them enjoyed being touched or held.

Remember to wash your hands after handling the terrapins because they carry SALMONELLA. Salmonella does not harm the terrapins itself, instead it is dangerous to human.So. remember to wash your hands with soap after playing with terrapins.
