Kam Heong Lala

Assalammualaikum peeps :)

Kam Heong Lala or the Spicy Clams is one of the most memorable dish that i can't forget from my past childhood when nanny babysit me.She's a Chinese woman with great cooking skills and i always love the time when she ride her bicycle and i'll sit at her back heading to the wet morning market by the streets in Ipoh. It's been so long since i last meet her, i definitely remember the taste of her chinese dish that i still favor till now.Maybe because of her, the chinese food and the lifestyle, just seem so close to me, besides from chinese family. And when my popo (grandma) cook the Chao Lala... boooomm..! she totally nailed it..! She keep the rest of the children quietly- scrumptiously eating during dinner.

Japanese Nabe - Japanese Hot Pot

Assalammualaikum yalls..

Having nabemono / nabe, or Japanese hot pot especially when its winter is the best thing ever..! You can any kind of broth you want but i personally prefer the curry or tomyam or simply just chicken broth. We had many kind of seafood like prawns, cuttlefish, crabs, chikuwa(fishcakes), and we have plenty of yummy side dishes like toufu, eggs, veggies and etc.

Most nabemono are stews and soups served during the colder seasons. In modern Japan, nabemono are kept hot at the dining table by portable stoves. The dish is frequently cooked at the table, and the diners can pick the cooked ingredients they want from the pot. It is either eaten with the broth or with a dip. Further ingredients can also be successively added to the pot.

You can have the hot pot with noodles and we even enjoyed sweet grilled chicken with delicious drinks..!! Yum yum..!!

Do enjoy nabe(hot pot) and have a good time during winter..!!

Ayam grilled mudah dan sedap

Assalammualaikum..~

Biasa dekat Msia, kalau makan makanan grill ni pun mesti makan salmon yang digrilled atau apa apa fish dish yang grilled.Jarang makan grilled chicken.Roasted chicken tu biasa la.Bila dekat Jepun ni, biasa tempat masak nya ada tiga, dua dapur gas dan satu tempat grill.Beza dgn Msia ,dua dapur gas.Itu pun oven lain grill lain.

Bila study makin busy, masa nak masak pun tunggang terbalik.Nak makan luar mahal sangat, jadi kena la masak hidangan yang simple and cepat.Instead of grill ikan, tak sangka grill ayam ni sedap juga.Dah la jimat masa, caranya pun mudah sangat.Sesuai la untuk orang yang busy tapi still nk makan healthy food..

Bahan-bahan:
Ayam potong dadu
kicap hitam
oyster sauce
satu per empat bawang merah besar hiris halus
dua ulas bawang putih hiris halus
setengah inci halia hiris halus
cili padi dihiris
garam gula

Langkah-langkah:

3.Perapkan ayam selama sejam.

Selamat mencuba.

Muffin mixture from Daiso Japan

Assalammualaikum and good morning folks.. :)
First of all, i'm gonna need to admit.. i'm not a good baker. Really a terrible one!!  Huhuhu... but i do really love to bake and the pastry and all sort of the sweet deserts. That's why i came to an initiative, baking some muffins using the express muffin mix by Daiso,Japan.
Only for the 100 yen, i got five yummy muffins in just 25 minutes. Isn't that super easy....!!! Well, here's the instructions for those who can't read Japanese.

All you'll going to need are :
1.The Chocolate Muffin Mix
2.An egg.. medium sized
3.Butter.. for 35g
4.Milk... two big spoon
5.The muffin cups
6.Any preferred toppings

Steps :
1.Prepare a big bowl.
2.Break an egg, insert the muffin mix, melted 35g of butter and two big spoon of milk..  and stir it until the mixture is well blended.
3.Pour the mixture into the tiny muffin cups (3/4 of the cups so that the mixture will not pour out when the muffin expending)
4.Lastly, just insert any toppings that you prefer on the top.
5.Bake it for 25 minutes on 170 degree celcius and you are done!!!!!

Because of the steps are so simple, and i don't have to get much ingredients, i've tried two kind of muffins and a cake mixture from Daiso. The muffins and cakes smell good and taste delicious.. :) *i promise* What can i say.. super easy but delicious!

Lala kangkung butter

Assalammualaikum yalls..

Selalu bila raya cina, biasa popo masak hidangan yang super duper best la.Tapi kiteorg adik beradik ni cucu kesayangan popo sebab kuat makan.. haha.. sotong masak cili kering and lala kangkung butter ni memang hidangann popular yang kiteorg minta popo masakkan masa raya.

Cara masak pun simple sangat.

Bahan-bahan:
Lala
Bawang putih,bawang merah,halia di blend
Lada sulah dan serbuk black pepper
Dua sudu besar butter
Kangkung
Gula
Garam
Cili dihiris

Guna api kecil ye.Tak nak nanti hangus jadi hitam plak.Goreng sampai naik bau.
Masukkan lah lala, lada sulah dan black pepper.Masukkan skali garam gula secukup rasa.
Comelnya lala ni, bila masak dia akan terbuka sendiri.Haha.. masa masak tu sibuk tengok lala mana last buka cenkerangnya.. hihihi..
Bila lala dan buka semuanya and kuah dah start kering, boleh la masukkan kangkung.
Tadaaaa... boleh la hidang and ngap lepas masak.. hihi..

Masa kecik, adik adik sibuk je kumpul cengkerang lepas makan .Pastu lepas dalam aquarium ayah n kena marah.. hahaha.. bising cakap *lala tumbuh balik*

Dengar lagu raya dekat YOUTUBE and bila dgr takbir raya, sayu sangat hati .. rindu nya pada Malaysia.. T_______T.. :p

Kali ni.. nak share resepi Ayam Bakar Black Pepper yang sempat buat untuk buka masa Ramadhan lepas.Masa tu mengidam sangat nak makan ayam bakar and kebetulan nak sambut Father's day, punya la sibuk korek resepi ayam bakar yang sedap sedap.Jumpa beberapa resepi and ubahla sikit sikit jadi resepi sendiri.. Hohoho.. Resepi nya senang sangat.Jom tengok..
Bahan-bahan:
Ayam seekor(nak potong jd beberapa bahagian pun boleh)
Tiga ulas bawang putih
Satu biji bawang merah
Satu inci halia
Empat sudu sos tiram
Serbuk black pepper
Tiga sudu gula
Satu setengah garam
Satu sudu besar butter
Dua biji kentang
Aluminium foil dan dulang bakar

Cara-cara:
1.Bersihkan ayam dengan segengam garam kasar and bilas dengan bersih.Cuci elok elok ye nnt ayam korang akan jadi bersih and berkilat.Set aside and biarkn air nya kering.
2.Blend bawang putih, bawang merah and halia dengan sedikit air.Jangan cair sangat sebab nanti nak tambahkn sos tiram.
6.Sediakan dulang bakar and lapik dgn aluminium foil.Ratakan butter dekat permukaan aluminium foil and letak la ayam dalam.
Sebenarnya masa tu ikut saiz ayam.Lagi besar lagi lama.selang tiga puluh minit macam tu boleh buka check n basahkan ayam dengan baki perapan supaya ayam basah sambil dibakar.Tiga puluh minit terakhir tu je biar ayam tu bakar hingga agak kering.Baru kulit rangup!!!!
8.Lepas siap bakar boleh la hias dgn carrot tops and hidang.

Tadaaaaa.... hihihi...
Sedap sangat kalau makan dengan nasi ayam.Kalau nak makan cara western, boleh la letak side dish mcm mashed potato atau coleslaw.Senang kan. Tak payah pergi Kenny Rogers pun dapat makan ayam bakar sedap.Hohoho.. Selamat mencuba.
Kalau sekali dah buat.. asyik nak buat lagi.. huahaha. The next day nya.. try plak bakar whole chicken.Yang ni kalau masak seekor.. hoho.. yum yum..

Cantonese Fried Wonton

Assalammualaikum :)
How's the day going on? Winter holiday just ended and everything just went back as usual ~ as always. There's still about four weeks left before the kimatsu final exam and we're off to long holiday in Malaysia..!!

I've been missing Malaysia so much and I even planned my whole holiday, preparing myself with long list of food that I wanna eat when getting back to Malaysia..Hohoho.. Popo even promised me to cook me some of her super yummy dish and I really can't wait to meet her and spend the whole time chit chatting with her.
Back when i'm in my childhood, popo often cooked us her wonton soups which had and always been my fav since i was little. But now, since i'm living in Japan and it's hard to find wonton with halal ingredients, i'd decided to make by my own.Hihihi..

FRIED WONTONS (炸云吞)
Filling
150 fatty coarsely minced chicken/beef
250 g prawns
peel, devein, wash and dice
2 tbsp thinly sliced spring onion
1 tbsp finely minced ginger
1 tbsp oyster sauce
 ½ tsp salt
¼ tsp sugar
¼ tsp ground white pepper
wonton wrappers
water for sealing wrappers
oil for deep-frying

For the filling, simply place all ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly. Gather mixture in one hand and throw back into the bowl, hard. Repeat till mixture is sticky.

For the wrapping, wrappers may be sealed with beaten egg as in the video, or water.Remember to be careful and not to overstuffed as they will pop open during the cooking process and eventually mess up the whole thing as I experienced before T___T .. As for mine, I choosed the shape of the Chinese gold.Fold the wrapper in half into a rectangle, and press the two sides together so you get a firm seal. Hold the bottom two corners of the little rectangle you just made, and bring the two corners together, pressing firmly to seal. (Use a little water to make sure it sticks.)

It's quite simple and what I love the most is you can just pack them in a tupperware and store them in the fridge.Just fried it whenever you want. What a good night snack isn't it ;)

Monday

Pan fried Butter Prawns

I still remember whenever my family and i step into The Nyonya Restaurant in Kuala Kangsar , it is a must for us order the butter prawns dish as the whole family love seafood so much.Even the sweetness of the prawns blending with the slight tinge of saltiness from the soy sauce and the spiciness of the chillies makes this dish ever so appetizing till my dad often get his 'nasi tambah'.

I love how the light taste of butter mixed with the fresh prawns plus the chillies in there, a little bit spicy but sweet just makes me wanna say Mammamia..!! The toasted desiccated coconut certainly enhances the taste besides adding a fantastic aroma to the dish. This time, i got the recipe from the Nyonya Cooking .Enjoy :)
  • 12 prawns
  • 25 g butter
  • 35 g coconut (dessicated or grated)
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 shallots
  • 3 bird-eye chillies
  • 4 curry leaf stalks
  • corn starch

  1. Lightly toast desiccated coconut until light brown. Remove from pan.
  2. Coat prawns with corn flour. Fry prawns and remove from pan.
  3. In a clean pan, melt butter at low heat.
  4. Add curry leaves, garlic and bird eye chillies.
  5. Season with some salt and sugar. Stir fry the ingredients until curry leaves curl.(I can't find any curry leaf in Japan so I skipped it)
  6. Add fried prawns, desiccated coconut and soy sauce.
  7. Mix well and serve.

Served the Pan Fried Butter Prawn with the Ikan Bakar Sos Maggie.. Haha.. personal recipe.. huahahaha... (resepi x jadi n x sedap kau x share plak :p)

Ahh.. don't forget the promise with popo to treat her a good meal at The Nyonya this Winter Holiday.. huhuhu..Pssttt, when searching the recipes, i came across and kinda interested with the butter prawn berkuah.Yup, maybe next time ;)

Stir Fried Crab with Ginger and Green Onion Hong Kong style

Assalammualaikum..~

It's almost New Year and i'm sure veryone is busy with the end year ... As for me, i'm busy reading and studying recipes for the coming New Year and i found some good recipes that i can try out.Recently, i got a stock of blue crabs from Bahrain and i've been busy googling crab recipes~ Hihi.. Honestly, i really want to go to Hokkaido and taste the blue crab there, but i barely able to find time to go to Sapporo coz it's too far~ T______T.

I got this Stir Fried Crab with Ginger and Green Onion Hong Kong style recipe from the 日日煮. This recipe is very simple and yet the meal taste delicious.Do try it for the next coming New Year celebrations or for the Chinese New Year day :) Yummylicious~ ~ ~

You will need:
For crab:
medium size fresh blue crab
80g of green onions, sliced。
40g of ginger, sliced
2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
Some red chili peppers, chopped
2 tablespoons of corn starch

Oyster Sauce:
1 tbsp of oyster sauce
Dissolved in 2 tbsp of water

Thickening Sauce:
1 tbsp of corn starch
2 tsp of chicken powder
Dissolved in 30ml of water
  1. Chop the fresh crab into pieces. Wash and wipe dry. Coat the crabs in corn starch.
  2. In a frying pan, heat up some oil on high heat (180 degrees.) Deep fry the crabs until golden, about 5 minutes. Drain off excess oil on kitchen towels. Set aside.
  3. In the same frying pan, remove the oil. Saute the green onions, minced garlic, and ginger until aromatic, about 2 minutes. Add the deep fry crabs. Saute thoroughly for 2 minutes.

Chin Sui Tan [chinese steamed egg]

Image result for steamed egg chinese

I grew up eating Chinese steamed eggs with variations one after another.I still remember whenever we have meal at the Catterbest Restaurant in Ipoh, the chin sui tan 蒸水蛋(steamed egg) is a must for my mum to order.I really missed those moments there T_____T (really wanna go back to Malaysia).
Cawan mushi crab,Hamazushi
Surprisingly, you can have the chin sui tan in Japan and it is called as the cawan mushi. I remember when i had a luch with Khairi last year, we had a cawan mushi crab at the Hamazushi and the cawan mushi flavour was slightly different but the texture is just as good as the chin sui tan.The dish is simple and what i like the most is the silky smooth texture of the steamed egg. It's healthy and delicious!

  • 2 eggs
  • 6 halved egg shells of boiled water (for your understanding, measure the water using the egg shell that had been broken into half. And for each egg add 3 portions of halved egg shells of boiled water )

  • soy sauce for taste
  • sesame oil for taste
  • minced meat(if you prefer)
  • chopped green onions

    1. In a bowl, beat two eggs, then add cooled boiled water to egg and mix well.
    2. You'll have bubbles on the top and to have a smooth surface, strain the mixture through a sieve into a steam-proof dish. Or, you may remove the bubbles with a spoon.
    3. Set up a rack with water in wok. You may need a higher rack that would suspend the dish above the water surface.
    4. Bring the water to a boil over high heat. Place the dish with beaten eggs on a rack, then top the dish with a flat plate.
    5.  Cover the lid and turn to low heat and steam for 15 minutes (the egg mixture in my dish is about 1.5cm thick). Open and check if the eggs are coagulated by gently shaking the dish. Do becareful of the hot steamed or you'll get burned.
    6. Top the steamed eggs with a dash of soy sauce, sesame oil and some chopped green onions.
    7. Serve hot.
    8. You can even enjoy it with the addition of shrimps, scallops, meat and etc.
BTW, i missed my popo hot chicken feet dish..! Can't wait for the next holiday to have some cooking lessons from popo :)
